While I share some of your views, I would state that in the big scheme government is not to blame more than BP. Within a democracy, the government is the ultimate expression of social mood; it's like for the subprime, the FED is not more to blame than you and I. It didn't cause it, the psychology of today's society made it possible; because it was believed that nothing go wrong, FEDs and banks around the world followed this belief. Greenspan was right, it wasn't the FED who fixed rates too low to create the mess, but the market! The FED is just following the market. Now who's the market?
